We like to refer to things as incidents here, and when our whole group took a trip through Southwest England this weekend, quite a few incidents went down.
*Cute British boys play minor or major roles in most of them. Everyone in my life who told me British people have bad teeth and aren’t all that good looking can tell that to the prep school boys/models on the side that we’ve seen in abundance in every town we’ve stepped foot in.
St. Michael’s Mount is one of the most spectacular things I’ve ever laid eyes on. There’s always been something very mysterious and romantic to me about houses built high above the ocean, and I think we can all agree this is the house above the ocean of all houses above oceans.

It was getting close to the time we needed to meet back up at the bus, and Ad, Lex and I decided to go ahead and go for dessert number two and try the famous English honeycomb ice cream. We bought it at a little stand from a lad with blonde hair and blue eyes who smiled slightly the whole time we were there and told us in his dreamy drawl that we each owed him one pound ninety.
We walked down to the isthmus (accurate geography term I looked up) that connected the island to the mainland. At this point, multiple factors came into play.
Then the seagulls came.
A few minutes before, Addie had told us a story about her dad on a family vacation. He had gotten an ice cream cone and was walking proudly back to the join the family loving his ice cream life when a seagull swooped down and just knocked his ice cream out of his hand. So you can imagine our terror when a seagull soared close to us, nonchalantly pretending not to be looking at us even though we knew it was eyeing our ice cream. Once another one swooped a little too close, Addie declared in panic, “They’re circling.” We broke into a run, ice cream dripping all over our clothes and pure survival dominating our minds, and it must have been quite a sight. Thus the seagull incident of 2014.
Besides that, we hit some other places that really blew me away.
Tintagel: Cliffs at the very edge of Britain. We could see Ireland in the distance. And if that wasn’t cool enough, there are castle ruins up there that they think, if King Arthur really existed, were his. In the water below is “Merlin’s Cave,” and maybe I just want to be a believer, but the water near it was glowing.

- The path is made out of packed stones with dirt in between, but the dirt has washed away over the years, leaving treacherous gaps between each rock. They’re just waiting for toes to get wedged in them and for faces to get forced to the ground.
- An ocean breeze sounds nice until your entire head of hair is in your mouth.
- Our ice cream started to melt at truly mind-blowing rates.

Stourhead Gardens. Good night. For one of my classes here, I studied up on English architecture and learned that in the 1700's, the fad was to build classically influenced villas and to center them on naturally beautiful landscapes, so this family busted out this.
Also Pride and Prejudice was filmed here
And we are having a blast (PC Kiley Barney)
And the best part is that when we come home, we come home to London. City girls in the making.
